What is the estimated total cost of ownership for a workstation?
Our custom computers can cost anywhere from $300 – $2,000. For our most popular desktop workstations, the units include a mini-computer with four years of warranty coverage and an optional keyboard and mouse set. While the warranty does not cover peripheral devices, keyboard and mouse sets can be purchased for a lower price.
Our laptops are sold at competitive prices and usually include two years warranty coverage.
How often will we need to update our hardware?
Vanilla Workstations are designed to stay in your classrooms for years, minimizing your costs for teacher training and IT deployment. We’re committed to preserving the footprint of our computers for at least eight years, enabling one-for-one replacements and upgrades as your computers age out of warranty status.
How soon can you deliver to our schools?
Most initial orders can be delivered to the school within six weeks. We work with you to get you a precise delivery date so your staff know what to expect, and so you can schedule around holidays, testing, and grant deadlines.
Will our current software work on your computers?
We support both Windows 10 and Linux operating systems; any software applications that are compatible with these operating systems can be easily installed on Vanilla Workstations.
We have sustainability goals! Are your practices compatible with our green initiatives?
Yep! We strive for minimal packaging that is fully recyclable and bulk shipping to make deployment quicker and tidier, reducing the time your IT staff spends opening and breaking down boxes.
The cases of the desktop workstations are metal, not plastic, improving both durability and longevity. In fact, our warranty plan prioritizes repairing and refurbishing units instead of adding to the global e-waste burden.
School Administrators
Will we need to train our teachers to use the computers?
Vanilla Workstations should be drop-in replacements for existing hardware and shouldn’t require new training. If schools require training support for classroom teachers, the nonprofit will eventually provide this option.
What are the systematic changes we need to expect once the workstations are set up?
There should only be a positive improvement at the school/classroom/tech support level. There’s nothing to be changed. We’re just offering a higher level of technological reliability with a brand new price point and drop-in replacements with a longer lifespan.
